Spring Clean Your Skincare Routine

Spring Clean Your Skincare Routine

Hey everyone! It’s your favorite esthetician here OB, owner of Oh Be You Facial Bar and UDODI Skincare.

Old man winter has overstayed his welcome. The cold weather, heaters in our home, can all contribute to dehydrating the skin. But I’m here to give you a few tips to get your skin ready for Spring

First and foremost, get a facial from a licensed esthetician. Treating yourself to some good skincare is a necessity, not a luxury. It's a good way to spend disposable income, use products to prevent maskne (breakouts from wearing a facemask), and dehydrated skin.

Our skin type changes with age and seasons, an esthetician can help you deep cleanse, exfoliate, analyze your skin, detect any skin problems, concerns, do extractions,  advise you on how to deal with any skin concerns you may have. But most importantly, your  esthetician can  help tweak your skin care routine and products to work with the current season.

Secondly, Ladies overhaul your make up bag. Overhaul that bag!!! Girl. When was the last time you checked your make up bag for expired products. Using products past their expiration date can cause skin irritation, breakouts and broken capillaries Below is a quick guideline on how long beauty products should be kept around or last.

 mascara: three months

lipstick: one year (some people say longer, so do what’s comfortable)

cleanser: one year

powder: up to two years, but wash your applicator regularly

foundation: 12 to 18 months (oil-based products last longer)

eye and lip pencils: up to three years (sharpen regularly)

brushes: wash every two to three weeks

sponges: wash weekly, discard monthly

When it comes to makeup brushes, maintenance is important because those things are not cheap.

Make sure you wash your make up brushes regularly at least every 2-3 weeks, depending on how often you use it.  Some people wash their brushes with dish soap or olive oil, I prefer to use regular shampoo, or baby shampoo.  No matter what you choose to wash your brushes with, DON’T USE BAR SOAP to prevent ruining the bristles of the brush. Always lay your brush flat to dry after washing.

Also you want to change your foundation from heavy to light. depending on your skin type, you want to transition into a lighter foundation for the spring and summer months. You can give  your skin a break and  switch up your moisturizers to a lighter one  or from cream cleanser to a gel cleanser.. but make sure you are getting the right one for your skin type.
